Mark Webber out of Hospital After Horror WEC Crash: Latest Details and Comment

Mark Webber is on the mend following a nasty crash in the last race of the World Endurance Championship season. The Australian was taken to hospital after the incident but has now been released.

Webber Exits Hospital

Autosport.com confirmed on Tuesday that Webber has been released from hospital:

The Australian, who was kept in the Bandeirantes hospital overnight on Sunday after sustaining concussion and bruising in the crash, was discharged on Monday night.

He is expected to remain in Brazil for a couple of days before he is cleared to fly home to the UK.

Webber Survives Horror Crash

Mark Webber escaped a serious injury following a horrific crash during the last race of this season's World Endurance Championship in Brazil, but remains in hospital as a precautionary measure as a result of a concussion.

The former Formula 1 driver's Porsche was left in a crumpled heap after he made contact with Ferrari's Matteo Cressoni on the 14th corner of Interlagos before thudding into the safety wall, per BBC Sport:

Webber was immediately taken to hospital but amazingly suffered only minor injury in what the FIA described as a "satisfactory" condition. BBC.com's Staff provided a statement from Webber when he arrived at the hospital:

I've got no recollection of the accident or how it happened - the team is looking into the details.

Thanks to the medical team at the track and here at the hospital who did a great job.

On a positive note it's great that the boys in car number 14 managed to bring home the victory which is a fantastic way to finish off the season.

I'm already looking forward to getting out there again next year.

Porsche finished the 2014 World Endurance Manufacturers' Championship in last place after the Six Hours of Sao Paulo race ended under safety car.

Per the Daily Mail's Alex Sharp, an FIA statement read:

The race ended under the safety car after a serious accident between the Porsche of Mark Webber and the AF Corse Ferrari of Matteo Cressoni. Both drivers were taken to the circuit's medical centre and, after initial examination, to the local Hospital Bandeirantes for further checks, their condition has been reported as satisfactory.

"

Webber made his return to Le Mans Prototype racing after a 12-year career in Formula 1, but caps off his comeback season in disappointing fashion following the incident.

Coming into the race, he sat in ninth place alongside team-mates Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard.

Interlagos will now be seen by the Australian as something of a cursed venue after he happened to crash on the exact same corner while driving under Jaguar's Formula 1 banner back in 2003.

Former Formula 1 rival Jenson Button tweeted his support for Webber after seeing the extent of the 38-year-old's Sao Paulo spill:

The early signs are positive that Webber will be back for the 2015 season after penning a long-term deal with Porsche, and despite the state of his wreck, the 38-year-old will walk away unscathed.

Fortunately, Cressoni also escaped any serious injury after a wreck which looked as though it could have been much worse for both men involved at first glance.
