USMNT Watch: Rubio Rubin Scores 1st Professional Goal

After a fairly rough start for many Americans playing abroad this fall, things continued to look up this week as United States men’s national team forward Rubio Rubin led the way with a goal.

Joe Gyau also continued his comeback from injury with his first minutes since injuring his knee back in October.

One American was also on the move this week as defender Will Packwood was sent out on loan.

The English Premier League Boys

Jozy Altidore came off the bench in the 62nd minute for Sunderland as they tied Chelsea 0-0, taking a point from their contest with the league leaders.

Geoff Cameron got the start at right-back for Stoke City, who lost 1-0 on a late goal to Liverpool.

Brad Guzan finished with three saves as Aston Villa tied Burnley 1-1.

And finally, it was a rough day on Sunday for Tim Howard and Everton, who lost 2-1 to Tottenham. Howard made four saves in the match, but he could have done better on both goals scored by Spurs.

Ze Germans

Timmy Chandler went the distance at right-back as Eintracht Frankfurt beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0. For Dortmund, Joe Gyau’s recovery continues to go well. He played 20 minutes for their reserve side on Sunday.

Fabian Johnson was not in the 18 for Borussia Monchengladbach and also missed out on their midweek trip to Villarreal in Europa League action.

Julian Green came on for the final 15 minutes of Hamburg’s 3-1 loss to Augsburg.

John Anthony Brooks started and played all 90 minutes as Hertha Berlin lost to league leaders Bayern Munich 1-0.

In Bundesliga 2, Terrence Boyd and Andrew Wooten went head to head as RB Leipzig took on Sandhausen. Boyd went the distance, while Wooten played 88 minutes. The game finished 0-0.

Bobby Wood was not in the 18 for 1860 Munich.

Alfredo Morales missed out on Ingolstadt’s match this weekend due to yellow-card accumulation.

In the English Championship

Birmingham’s Will Packwood was loaned out this week to League One side Colchester United. He was given the start in his first game with his new team, but it didn’t go so well as Colchester lost 6-0 and Packwood was red-carded.

For Packwood’s parent club, Brek Shea was not in the 18 as the Blues beat Nottingham Forest 2-1. Jonathan Spector is still out injured. Eric Lichaj started and went the distance for Forest.

Tim Ream started and played 90 minutes for Bolton at left-back as they beat Huddersfield 1-0.

Danny Williams played 84 minutes for Reading as they beat Norwich 2-1.

Emerson Hyndman played 63 minutes for Fulham as they beat Brighton 2-1.

Elsewhere in Europe

Aron Johannsson played 66 minutes as AZ Alkmaar beat Cambuur 2-0.

Rubio Rubin scored his first professional goal, tallying in Utrecht’s 5-1 win over NAC Breda.

Sacha Kljestan played the final 33 minutes as Anderlecht tied Club Bruges 2-2.

Conor O’Brien went the distance as Wiener Neustadt lost 3-0 to Rapid Wien.

Josh Gatt (Molde) is still out injured.

Nantes lost 2-0 to Marseille. Alejandro Bedoya didn’t get off the bench.

South of the Border

Jose Torres went the distance and Herculez Gomez played the final 32 minutes as Tigres tied Pachuca 1-1. The draw was good enough for Tigres to advance to the Liguilla semifinals.

Edgar Castillo played 90 minutes as Atlas fell to Monterrey 2-0 and were eliminated from the Liga MX playoffs.
