Roddy White: Why His Hold Out Might Not Work

Demondre' WileyJul 31, 2009

Falcons Pro Bowl receiver, Roddy White, was a no-show for the first day a training camp and the Falcons fined him $17,000.

White is to make $2.28 million next season, which is his last season under contract.

There are some reasons why White's holdout will be all for not.

For starters, no one is sure if there will be a new collective bargaining agreement by February 2010.

If there isn't, then White will be a restricted free agent instead of being an unrestricted free agent.

So at the end of the 2009-2010 season the Falcons can match any offer for White or receive possibly two first round picks for him, and select a new receiver in the 2010 draft.

Hmmmm I'm thinking Arrelious Benn of Illinois, Dez Bryant of Oklahoma State, or even Brandon LaFell of LSU?

Yeah, I know.....

Roddy White doesn't seem all that invaluable now does he?

Also, Thomas Dimitroff came from the Patriots who won Super Bowls with David Patten, Troy Brown, and Deion Branch.

I know, not all that great of a receiving core.

That shows that all you need is at least guys who can catch the consistently, not big time play makers.

Who says that Harry Douglas and Michael Jenkins can't be those guys?

Let's not forget Aaron Kelly, who Mike Mularkey and Terry Robiskie are really high on.

I mean, how many Super Bowl rings do Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, and Larry Fitzgerald have combined?

So White should have considered these facts before deciding to holdout.

What do you think of White's holdout?
