Scott TuttleJul 31, 2009

Alabama is gearing up for fall practice which begins on August the 9th and a mere 35 days from today Alabama will meet VT Hokies in the Georgia Dome. A game which is sure to be a Top 10 match-up.

Let's look at the match up between Alabama's Cody and VT's Beau Warren.

VT's Beau Warren - Jr, Center, 6'3" at 277 LB's

- Beau played a limited number of snaps last year as he was the backup to SR Ryan Shuman. He saw snaps against Furman, UNC, Maryland, Georgia Tech and Duke. Roughly 20% of VT's offensive snaps last year.

- In 2008 he won the Frank O. Mosley Award as the offensive player who showed the most hustle during the off-season and spring practice.

- VT is returning 3 starters to their OL, SR Ed Wang (OT), SR Sergio Render (OG) and SO Blake Dechristopher (OT). Beau will be starting at Center and SO Jaymes Brooks at guard.

- In spring Beau worked on recognizing defenses and shotgun snaps. It has also been mentioned that he is going to try to add some weight over the summer.

- VT's Offensive Line yielded 3.4 sacks per game and averaged 3.3 yards per rush.

Everything that I have read about Beau says that he knows the system and plays hard.

Alabama's Terrence Cody - Sr, Nose Guard, 6'5" at 365 LB's

- All-American last season.

- All-SEC & Pre-Season ALL SEC this year.

- His job is simply to demand double and triple-teams on every play.

- One of the driving forces behind Cody's return was to improve his skill sets. He wants to play on passing downs this year. If he can get down to 365-350 range he will be a leaner, quicker and much more productive player on those third-and-long downs. On passing downs his job is pretty straight forward. That is to push the center and or the center and the guard into the pocket.

Terrence Cody is one of those rare players where it isn't so much about the numbers; it is simply him being on the field that alters what other teams can do. The presence of Mt. Cody alone is a huge unmeasurable stat.

On Sept 5th, when Alabama meets VT in the Georgia Dome keep an eye on the Cody vs Warren match-up. SR All American Cody will face Off against JR Center Warren. This should be one heck of a match-up in the trenches.
