Arsenal Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of November 24

James McNicholasNov 24, 2014

With January fast approaching, Arsenal's transfer fixers should already be working on securing the recruits they badly need.

Nacho Monreal has struggled to provide cover for Laurent Koscielny at centre-half, so an experienced defender should be top of their list of targets.

However, that's not all they need. A defensive midfielder would also provide the back four with some much-needed protection.

Over the coming week, we'll keep a watchful eye on the media for the latest Arsenal transfer stories. Check back here for regular updates.

Arsenal Linked with Improbable Isco Deal

Thursday, November 27

The Metro report on claims from Fichajes.net that Arsenal are trying to lure Real Madrid's Isco to London.

Such a move seems hugely unlikely: although he is not a regular starter at the Bernabeu, Isco remains an important part of Madrid's plans for the future. What's more, Arsenal aren't exactly short of creative midfielders. This one seems like a non-starter.

Arsenal Must Pay Big Money for Marcelo Brozovic

Tuesday, November 25

Arsenal have been told they will need to spend big if they want to sign Marcelo Brozovic.

The 22-year-old Croatian international has been linked with the Gunners, but Dinamo Zagreb boss Zdravko Mamic has told Sportski.net (h/t The Mirror):

"

If someone wants one of our key players, it can only be with a memorable bid, if they knock me off my feet.

That is my principle. But we have no offers.

And the numbers appearing in the media do not interest us.

"

With Arsenal needing a defender more than a playmaker like Brozovic, their interest may be cooled by Mamic's demands.

Arsenal Linked with Fabian Schar Again

Monday, November 24

Tony Stenson of the Daily Star believes Arsenal are lining up a January bid for Swiss international Fabian Schar.

The defender's contract will be up this summer, so he could be available for a knockdown fee.

It's difficult to predict how he'd fare in the Premier League, but Schar does appear to have the physical stature required to cope with the tumult of English football. He's certainly a player Arsenal should be keeping a close eye upon in the coming months.

Nacho Monreal Not Going Anywhere

4 of 4

Monday, November 24

Spanish website Fichajes.net (h/t Metro) report that Nacho Monreal will not be leaving Arsenal in January, despite interest from Athletic Bilbao.

One should imagine not. Arsenal are desperately short of defenders, and the last thing they should be doing is selling the ones they have.
