John D. HalloranNov 23, 2014

With club action resuming after the two-week international break, there was plenty for United States men’s national team fans to get excited about this weekend as American forwards Terrence Boyd and Aron Johannsson both got on the score sheet.

Also on a positive note, Joe Gyau appears to be almost fully recovered from injury, John Anthony Brooks picked up Man of the Match honors and Conor O’Brien tallied in the Austrian Bundesliga.

USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann also made headlines this week, coming under fire for his treatment of Bolton defender Tim Ream during the international break.

Geoff Cameron got a rare start at center-back for Stoke City this weekend. However, he didn’t exactly cover himself in glory as he was at least partially culpable on both of Burnley’s goals in the Potters' 2-1 loss.

Tim Howard made two saves in Everton’s 2-1 win over West Ham. American Sebastian Lletget made the bench for the Hammers, but he did not play.

Jozy Altidore was an unused substitute in Sunderland’s 0-0 draw with Leicester.

John Anthony Brooks made his first league start for Hertha Berlin in over two months and made the most of it, leading Hertha to a 2-1 win over Cologne and winning for himself WhoScored.com’s Man of the Match honors.

Joe Gyau was in the lineup for Borussia Dortmund II this weekend, making his first matchday squad since injuring his knee on international duty in October. It has been a quicker-than-expected recovery for Gyau, who was originally supposed to be out until January.

Timmy Chandler started and went the full 90 for Eintracht Frankfurt in their 3-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach. Fabian Johnson did not make the 18 for ‘Gladbach.

Bobby Wood did not make the gameday squad for 1860 Munich this weekend.

In the English Championship

Tim Ream went the distance for Bolton in their 1-1 draw with Blackpool. However, the bigger news was off the pitch as Wanderers’ manager Neil Lennon ripped U.S. men’s national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann for calling Ream up late into the American camp during the international break and then only playing him for one minute against Ireland.

Eric Lichaj went 90 minutes at right-back in Nottingham Forest’s 3-0 win over Wolves.

Both Atlas and America will be continuing their season in the Liga MX playoffs.
