What Is The Answer For "The Answer"?

Dwayne MontellJul 30, 2009

It is July 30 and one of the greatest basketball players in history does not have a team right now.

Allen Iverson is still thinking about where to go. I thought about what I wrote for Iverson going to the Suns and I don't think there are better situations for The Answer. The New York Knicks have contacted Iverson's agent. This would be a pretty good move but it would only be a good move if David Lee stays with the Knicks and Iverson gets to be Iverson. Wouldn't it attract someone like LeBron, Bosh, or Wade to the Knicks in 2010 once they see Iverson still has the abilities to lead a not so talented team to the playoffs?

I have written many times about why the Pistons situation did not work for him. It was almost impossible. Here is a great article I read, it explains why Iverson is still the Iverson of old.

Anyway, I don't really like the situation with the Knicks. It would be good if one of the three big free agents next year signed with them, but for this season it would not be so good. I do not see Iverson being able to mesh with other players on the Knicks. Besides, Nate Robinson is the future for this franchise and he can only play point guard.

Now that the Lakers are going to resign Lamar Odom expect Miami to offer Iverson another contract. Dwyane Wade has already made it clear that he wants Iverson. Would this situation be good? I think it is the best fit right now.

The Heat are going to get Boozer and that would be a good starting line up with D-Wade and Iverson in the backcourt and Beasley, Boozer, and Jermaine O'Neal in the front court. They can easily win the East just because of Wade and Iverson's abilities to take over games themselves. Other than the Cavs, nobody has anyone on their team that can score like those two.

But Iverson may not want this as much because Iverson is going to be playing with a major chip on his shoulder. He would probably want to come out and average around 25 ppg at least to show everybody that he can still do what he does best. It would be hard scoring like he did with the Nuggets and Sixers with D-Wade next to him. D-Wade also wants to score and is the current scoring champion, something Iverson has won four times. They could end up clashing and it would be a disaster. It could easily end up like the Pistons backcourt issues they had this year.

Another problem I have is Iverson would not get his precious No. 3 jersey. You know the one he has worn for 12 years of his career, the one that usually sells the most and is the nicest one. Wade is going to keep his number and Iverson could again not have such a big year for sales because of his I3 campaign with Reebok. When you say No. 3 the first thing most people think is Iverson. He made that number famous.

Enough with the number, let's get back to basketball. As of right now I think the Bobcats may make an offer. Larry Brown has got more control now and just traded Emeka Okafor for Tyson Chandler. Maybe they will make another offer for Iverson. This would be the best situation for Iverson. Read this for more on that topic.

Right now I think Iverson is still the "Answer" for the Bobcats.

PS: Allen Iverson was voted sixth on the Forbes list for Most Hated People In Sports. They said it was because of his tattoos, cornrows, and hip-hop image. True, Iverson is one of the most hated athletes ever. They say the more that they hate you, the more it motivates you.
