Szczesny Withdrawn Due to Back Injury
Arsenal's injury-ravaged 2014-15 campaign continued against Manchester United on Saturday, as star goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was forced off the pitch with an injury after a collision with Kieran Gibbs, via the Daily Telegraph's Henry Winters:
The collision eventually led to a goal for United, completing a horrendous bit of play for the Gunners. Via The Sun Football's Twitter account, the Poland international was replaced by Emiliano Martinez, who made his Premier League debut in the process:
Fans pointed at Marouane Fellaini, who appeared to shove Gibbs into his stopper, as well as the defender as culprits, but KICK TV's Jimmy Conrad believed the Pole could have done better:
Szczesny is by far Arsenal's best option in goal, with Martinez presenting a talented but woefully inexperienced backup option. Fans have to hope their starting goalkeeper isn't forced to miss too much time; otherwise, the Gunners will be forced to play without a top stopper until the January transfer window.
