Reus Suffers Fresh Ankle Injury

Borussia Dortmund's 2014-15 season took another turn for the worse on Saturday when star forward Marco Reus was stretchered off the pitch against Paderborn with a suspected ligament tear in his ankle.

Eurosport shared the news:

After the match, Dortmund provided an update on the midfielder:

"

Borussia Dortmund not only lost two points in the 2-2 draw in Paderborn, they also lost Marco Reus through injury. The attacking midfielder, who scored BVB’s second goal of the afternoon and their 2,800th in the Bundesliga, was forced off in the 64th minute with a suspected ankle injury.

BVB sporting director Michael Zorc said after the match that Reus could have sustained “a lateral ankle ligament rupture, with the synesmosis also looking to be damaged, according to our doctor’s initial diagnosis.”

Five months ago, in an international friendly for Germany against Armenia, Reus suffered a partial ligament tear in his left ankle which ruled him out of the World Cup. This time, it’s the other foot, which, according to BVB coach Jürgen Klopp, “makes it even worse. His ankle has swollen up badly.”

"

Klopp also discussed the incident when the injury occurred:

"

Klopp called the incident “madness” in a post-match statement. “I can’t find another word for it,” said the Dortmund coach, though he was eager to stress that he doesn’t believe it was an intentional foul by former BVB player Marvin Bakalorz. But he also said, “There are situations where he makes sliding tackles without any control whatsoever. I used to tell him that he shouldn’t do that. Marvin is a great lad, but that was just too much.”

"

The Germany international had made the score 2-1 for Die Schwarzgelben earlier in the match, but a brutal tackle from Marvin Bakalorz on the inside of his leg twisted his ankle, as the 25-year-old crashed to the pitch in obvious pain.

FootballFacts101 shared the Vine of the challenge:

The past year has not been kind to Reus, who was forced to sit out the 2014 World Cup with an injury and missed several matches in the 2014-15 campaign as well. Bundesliga Fanatic's Cristian Nyari couldn't believe the poor Reus' luck:

The forward will want to forget the past year as fast as he can and start 2015 with a clean bill of health while Borussia will need their star forward back in a hurry if they are to turn their fortunes around this campaign.
