Eibar vs. Real Madrid: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Rob BlanchetteNov 21, 2014

It is the football equivalent of David and Goliath—as the little Basque club Eibar welcome the visit of the millionaires from Real Madrid to their humble Ipurua Stadium.

The ground holds just 5250 fans and is the smallest in the Spanish top flight by some distance.

But Eibar make up for their lack of status with their big hearts, and they have proved they can compete in La Liga, currently in mid-table, and comfortably so.

In sporting terms, there is no comparisons for Eibar and Real Madrid as they face-off against each other on Saturday evening.

For Madrid, the talk is always about money and who the next Galactico is. For Eibar, the chatter always centres around survival—in a jungle full of big cats and vultures.

But for a match such as this, the form book goes out the window as Eibar attempt to beat their illustrious visitors in their first ever La Liga contest with them.

Madrid are in stunning form and have manoeuvred themselves to the top of the league with a run of deadly form.

A collection of 24 points from a possible 24 has seen Los Blancos leapfrog all of the likely contenders, as Barcelona drop surprising results to inferior opposition.

But Eibar have only lost once at home this season in La Liga, per Goal.com, and the match could represent a banana skin for Cristiano Ronaldo and company.

Eibar coach Gaizka Garitano was in a bullish mood as he addressed the differences between the two teams, with football writer Jamie Kemp being impressed with the manager's refreshing attitude:

Madrid are undoubtedly the favourites for this match and no one will blink an eye if they return to the Spanish capital with a hatful of goals.

But Eibar have already earned many a surprised top-flight opponent's respect this season, and the neutral will be hoping they can once again impress against the biggest club of all.

Real Madrid travel to the Basque country with a full squad, minus Luka Modric, with all of Carlo Ancelotti's men available for training in preparation for their next La Liga match, per Madrid's official website.

Modric has been ruled out for three months after tearing a thigh muscle playing for his country, per Nicholas McGee of Goal.com, but the Italian boss says he will not be panicking at the loss of one of his most influential midfielders.

Ancelotti confirmed he will not be diving into the transfer market or making any rash purchases, whilst speaking to Radio Nacional de Espana, per McGee:

"

No, Real Madrid will not be buying in January, because we are able to replace Modric. We have other important players for this type of situation. Last year we had the same problem with the injury to [Sami] Khedira. We'll fix it by putting in another midfielder.

We have the option of replacing him with Khedira, [Asier] Illarramendi and finally, we have the option of Isco, who does not have the habit of playing in the position but I think he can do it in some games.

We have [Alvaro] Medran, a youngster from Castilla who is doing very well and we like him. He may be an option at least to be with us.

Modric has been a key player for Madrid in recent times but his absence should not effect the team's overall efficiency. Sami Khedira is the perfect player to step into the fray—a man who performed so well at the World Cup, and will relish the chance to prove himself after last season's injuries.

But the question will be: Can Eibar resist the potency of the likes of Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez?

Their defence has been impressive this season but they will not have faced an attack with so much pace and quality in their boots. Madrid should make short work of Eibar as they look to strangle the game early—but football is a romantic sport, and maybe David can once again find Goliath's weak spot.
