Witten and Boldin Pass Torry Holt for 15th on Career Receptions List

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 24, 2014

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin and Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten both finished Week 12 with 922 career catches, moving past Torry Holt (920) for a tie in 15th place on the all-time receptions list, per pro-football-reference.com.

The 34-year-old Boldin was first to pass Holt, doing so with a massive performance of nine catches for 137 yards and a touchdown in Sunday afternoon's 17-13 win over the Washington Redskins. He set personal season-high marks for receptions and yards, comfortably recording his first 100-yard game of the year while accounting for more than half of his team's receiving yards.

Witten later surpassed Holt with a more modest showing, catching four balls for 30 yards and a touchdown in a 31-28 Sunday Night Football victory over the New York Giants. Though still a key piece in the Dallas offense, the 32-year-old tight end has not topped six receptions, eight targets or 70 receiving yards in any game this season.

While the two standout veterans may play different positions, Boldin and Witten have found success in similar ways, using strength, excellent hands and precise route running to overcome middling speed. Both are also considered to be among the best run-blockers at their respective positions, with reputations built more around toughness and intelligence than pure athleticism.

It thus comes as no surprise that these products of the 2003 draft have aged so well, as both have been beating up on faster players since coming into the league.
