Briggs Indicates Injury Could Force Him to Miss a Few Weeks, Ruled Out vs. Lions

Adam L. Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times has the latest on Briggs:

"

Don’t expect Lance Briggs to play against the Detroit Lions. The veteran linebacker said during  “The Lance Briggs Show” late Tuesday on Comcast SportsNet that his groin injury may keep him out a few weeks.

Briggs also seemed to indicate that the Bears’ Dec. 15 matchup against the New Orleans Saints could be when he returns.

"

Adam Hoge of TheGameChicago.com confirmed Briggs would miss Week 13:

Trestman Updates Briggs' Condition

Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune spoke on Lance Briggs' status after suffering an injury on Sunday:

Briggs Leaves Game With Groin Injury

The Bears confirmed the injury and said the linebacker won't return to the game:

A fixture in the Chicago defense for the last 12 seasons, Briggs' late career has been mired by injuries. He was limited to nine games in 2013 due to a shoulder fracture, and he was held out of three contests earlier this season with a rib injury. Greene and Christian Jones handled a majority of the snaps in Briggs' stead.

A seven-time Pro Bowler, Briggs had been a bastion of health before the last two seasons. He missed four total games in the first decade of his career and was a fixture on Bears defenses that often finished among the league leaders. It's been a far different story since Marc Trestman took over in 2013, with Chicago standing significantly below league average in Football Outsiders' DVOA metric.

Depending on the severity of his injury, it's possible Briggs has played his last snap in Chicago. If that's the case, it's an awfully disappointing way to go out.
