Real Madrid Transfer News: Chelsea to Steal Alvaro Medran from Los Blancos

Rob BlanchetteNov 19, 2014

Real Madrid supporters will be worried to hear that one of their great young talents could be about to walk out of their door to join Premier League leaders, Chelsea.

Alvaro Medran is one of Los Blancos' most highly rated talents in Spain, but it appears Jose Mourinho has his eyes fixed on the player.

The Metro says reports in Spain suggest Medran could be on his way to West London with Mourinho offering the 20-year-old a deal to join his club, with Madrid still to approach Medran about signing a new contract.

It would be a bitter blow to Carlo Ancelotti, who has promoted the youngster into his first-team set-up in recent weeks.

Real Madrid TV presenter Phil Kitromilides and AS journalist Nicholas Rigg both recently highlighted Medran's breakthrough achievements with club and country:

Medran describes himself as "a midfielder who organizes play and has a good shot," per Madrid's official website.

The website then describes him as "a very complete central midfielder and he has a powerful engine which can be seen when doing defensive work."

This is a great description of the player, who seems mature beyond his age when he is on the ball. His levels of awareness outweigh his years greatly, and the promise is obvious to see.

Like all of Madrid's youth, Medran has come through their Castilla side, with the player featuring 22 times for the second-string team since 2013 and scoring seven times, per Soccerway.com.

However, Chelsea may have competition for the boy's signature with several German teams keeping an eye on Medran.

Hugo Cerezo of Marca says Bayer Leverkusen, Mainz and Hannover have all scouted the player and are watching the Spain under-21's situation.

But Cerezo explains that Zinedine Zidane, who coaches Castilla, has made Medran the major cog in his side and also reveals Chelsea have approached the player in the past:

"

This summer, various teams from La Liga were already interested in taking him on a loan. Almeria, Cordoba and Espanyol all expressed an interest, but Zidane would not be moved, and Medran stayed put. He's the star player of the Castilla side this season, wearing No. 10, and he's been key for the Frenchman's first season in the dugout.

Medran, represented by the MRH agency, renewed his contract with Real Madrid in 2012. At the time, a big offer came in from Chelsea, forcing Real to make a counter-offer if they hoped to keep the youngster.

"

It is no surprise that Mourinho has returned to his former club to try and steal one of their brightest talents. Medran will have a queue of clubs after his signature if he becomes available, and Chelsea will want to execute a deal fast.

Madrid's preference for Galactico signings leaves Medran's future at risk. At Chelsea, he can learn under a great coach where the stability for him may be greater than in the Spanish capital city.

He will soon outgrow Castilla and need to play first-team football regularly—and a partnership with Cesc Fabregas is not out of the question. The two Spanish players would form a dynamic central midfield.

The ball is now in Florentino Perez's court, and we must wait to see just how much the Madrid club president appreciates the value of youth.
