Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford, Golden Tate's Post-Week 11 Fantasy Reaction

Brian MaziqueNov 16, 2014

Even with the Detroit Lions' trio of Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate struggling to break out in the team's 14-6 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the teams, fantasy football owners should still feel comfortable starting them in the future.

The Cardinals defense, which has had plenty of success this season, came out seemingly intent upon keeping Megatron from beating them on deep passes. In fact, he didn't even see a pass thrown his way until the second quarter. Still, more than midway through the third quarter, Johnson had caught four passes for 46 yards.

Yet no one on Detroit's offense had found the end zone.

Stafford has shown maturity and growth as a quarterback. He was trusting Johnson's supporting cast, namely Tate, who was phenomenal in Johnson's absence earlier in the season. Stafford might be regressing a bit if his performance against Arizona is any indication, though.

With 45 minutes in the books, he had only thrown to Tate twice, which resulted in 41 yards. Megatron had eight targets at the same juncture of the game.

Even with Johnson back in the lineup, Tate has proven he'll still be a valuable fantasy receiver if he gets the targets. In Week 10 when Johnson returned to the lineup, Tate had 11 receptions for 109 yards. It was his third straight 100-yard receiving game.

Stafford has had an up-and-down season, and that continued as the Cardinals picked him off twice early. Combine that with the lack of touchdown strikes, and Sunday was a bad day for any owners with Stafford as their starter.

The lack of ball distribution and passing touchdowns should only be a temporary setback. This team has been too good offensively for Stafford, Johnson and Tate to not be considered prime fantasy performers against any team for the rest of the season.
