Peyton Manning's Multi-Touchdown Streak Ends at 15 Games

Bleacher Report MilestonesNov 17, 2014

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning threw just one touchdown pass in Sunday's 22-7 loss to the St. Louis Rams, ending his record-setting streak of 15 consecutive regular-season games with multiple touchdown passes, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Manning finished the surprising loss with 34 completions for 389 yards on 54 pass attempts with two interceptions and a lone touchdown toss to wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who along with tight end Julius Thomas and running back Montee Ball, left the game with an injury, per Mike Klis of The Denver Post.

Ball and Thomas both suffered lower-body injuries in the first quarter, while Sanders was diagnosed with a concussion after taking a big hit in the third quarter.

Despite all of the injuries and his own shaky play, Manning had quite a few chances to march the Broncos toward the end zone for his second touchdown pass of the game.

With just under 10 minutes remaining and Denver down 19-7, Manning was sacked by Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald on a 4th-and-4 from the St. Louis 28-yard line.

He then threw his second interception of the quarter on the next drive and had a pass batted down on a 4th-and-1 from the Rams' 41-yard line with under three minutes remaining.

Manning did get one last play from deep inside his own territory, but the failed fourth-down conversions represented his last real chances to push the streak to 16 games.

He threw 50 touchdown passes over the course of the 15-game streak, which began in a Week 12 loss to the New England Patriots last season.

The second-longest streak of 13 consecutive games with multiple touchdown passes is shared by four players, with Manning (2004) joined by Aaron Rodgers (2011), Tom Brady (2010-2011) and Don Meredith (1965-1966), per Pro-Football-Reference.com's play index.
