My Attempt to Fix the WWE's Faction, Legacy

Mike SalvatoreJul 29, 2009

Hello, B/R Community, this is my first time writing an article in any capacity and I hope that it is up to the standards of all the wonderful writers that contribute regularly to the Bleacher Report. Ok, with that little formality out of the way, here we go....

I want to preface this article by saying that I was skeptical about Legacy as a faction from the start because I viewed it as Evolution 2.0.

However, I'm a huge Orton fan, and the chance for him to be the head of a stable appealed to me, so I gave Legacy the benefit of the doubt.

Legacy has been together for about seven months and I can safely say that the stable has not lived up to its potential. Sure, Orton is champ, but we could all see that one coming.

It seems all Rhodes and DiBiase are good for at this point are interfering in matches, so that Orton gets disqualified or taking FU's and pedigrees, allowing Orton to hit an RKO.

It's the same thing every week! The WWE is really killing any credibility for Legacy. We need to see some growth from all three men, if this stable is to succeed.

Let's start with Orton. Yes, he is the WWE champ, but does that even mean anything at this point? Right now, he looks like one of the weakest champions ever.

I know he's a heel and they are supposed to take shortcuts to win, but when was the last time he had a clean win?

Every time he gets in trouble the goon squad comes in to bail him out. How is Legacy supposed to be taken seriously if their leader constantly needs to be rescued?

Now, onto Rhodes and DiBiase. I almost feel like these guys are a victim of circumstances due to the WWE's weak tag team division. How can they feud with anyone if there are only five teams, four of which are heels!

Lord knows they won't win the titles any time soon because the WWE is using Jericho and Show to help redeem the titles a little bit. I know hindsight is 20/20, but when the WWE broke up the Colons, they really killed any chance for Rhodes and DiBiase to win the titles.

Ok, so how do we fix this...

Solution 1: Have Carlito join up with Legacy

What better way to make Legacy stronger then by adding a new recruit. Carlito is a second-generation superstar in his own right, and now that he has split from Primo he is going to need a storyline.

I'm sure they will do the whole brother vs. brother angle, but Carlito is going to need something once that feud dies down, and this might be it.

Having Carlito on board would increase Legacy's credibility. By having another member, they could increase their influence over the RAW roster, i.e. another US Title run for Carlito. Also, by having a fourth member, it wouldn't be as simple for Cena and Triple H to take Legacy out by themselves.

Solution 2: Merge with the Hart Dynasty

Here is where I think the WWE really messed up since there is little chance of this happening now. When the 15 superstar trade was announced I was really hoping these guys would wind up on RAW. Imagine this powder keg of a faction; it would be similar to the days when the Corporation dominated the WWF.

It really would be a perfect fit, seeing as how the Hart Dynasty basically has the same M.O as Legacy. This would work because neither of these teams figures to be feuding for the tag titles any time soon, but this would give them all a chance to develop under Orton. Hell, you could still throw Carlito into the mix if you wanted to.

Another reason I really want this scenario to happen is because of the inevitable DiBiase face turn. How epic would that be if down the line there is a split in the group; half staying with Orton, half going with DiBiase? Just something to think about.

Solution 3: Give Legacy some more backbone

This is the simplest solution. Let them win some damn matches! Especially Rhodes and DiBiase. Give them a chance to win some matches on RAW to let them build some momentum so that if/when they win the tag titles they will also be viewed as credible champions.

For the love of God let Orton win one title match without Legacy's help. Let him beat Cena at Summerslam without the dynamic duo's help. I guarantee that will provide both the group and the title with some much needed credibility.

Solution 4: Break Legacy Up

You would have to think that DiBiase and Rhodes would get fed up with being Orton's henchmen, at some point. Hell, DiBiase has said it in the past, and Triple H brought it up this past Monday on RAW.

Since it seems the Rhodes and DiBiase are going to face a reuniting DX, this could be the boiling point. After they inevitably get crushed at Summerslam, that could set the wheels in motion for the DiBiase face turn and the end of Legacy.

Solution 5: Bring Goldust into the fold

He is Cody Rhodes' brother and a second generation superstar in his own right...OK, maybe that is a bit of a stretch.

I hope everyone enjoyed this article, please comment and let me know what you think.
