Five Teams To Watch in College Football This Year!

robert meyerJul 29, 2009

The 2009 college football season should be interesting. Many teams have a chance to win a national championship.

Oklahoma has Sam Bradford, who can lead the Sooners to another BCS National Championship Game appearance.

Florida has Tim Tebow and could repeat.

Plus, there are five other teams that could surprise many people this year.

Utah:

Last year, Utah had a great season. Throughout the entire regular season, they remained unbeaten (13-0). They also beat Alabama (12-2) in the Sugar Bowl.

Many people think that the Utah's season was a fluke.

Although Utah lost its quarterback, I still believe that this team can make a run in 2009.

They have some talented running backs and some great wide receivers. They also have an aggressive and punishing defense.

Auburn:

Auburn is entering this season with some great potential despite going 5-7 last season.

Their new coach, Gene Chizik, will be the key to the Tigers' success. Chizik was Auburn's defensive coordinator when they went 13-0, and he was Texas's defensive coordinator when Texas won the National Championship.

Auburn has an inexperienced quarterback, Kodi Burns, this year, but Burns, who was the main starter last year, is good enough to lead the Tigers to an excellent season.

With its defense, Auburn is always a threat in the SEC. Plus, considering Chizik's defensive success, the Tigers' defense should be even more dominating.

Oklahoma State:

Oklahoma State was decent last year.  They finished third in the Big 12 with a 9-4 record.

The Cowboys have a chance to do some real damage this year.

They have a huge threat at wide receiver, Dez Bryant. Bryant had over 1,400 receiving yards last year. He also had five 100-yard games.

Moreover, Oklahoma State has a senior quarterback at the helm.

The Cowboys could make some real noise in 2009.

Maryland:

Maryland has great talent and excellent potential, especially in the running back corps.

Last season, Maryland was 8-5.

This season, they have a senior quarterback to lead them. As a result, Maryland could make a run at the ACC title, and don't be surprised if they win it.

They have that kind of talent this year.

Mississippi:

Towards the end of the 2008 season, Mississippi made a great surge, and the Rebels gave Florida its only loss of the season.

Junior quarterback Jevan Snead had a great season last year and should have an even better one this year.

The defense was excellent last year, allowing only 17.3 pts per game.

Mississippi could give LSU some trouble in the SEC West division this year.
