Brandon Marshall, Bears Comment on WR's Twitter Argument with Fan

Mike ChiariNov 14, 2014

One day after engaging in a war of words with a Detroit Lions fan on Twitter, Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall is downplaying the incident.

As seen in this series of tweets courtesy of Marshall's Twitter account, he challenged the Lions fan to a boxing match:

Marshall eventually sent out another tweet suggesting that the boxing challenge was simply a joke:

According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, Marshall claims that the exchange was meant to draw attention to an anti-bullying campaign:

The 30-year-old wideout also revealed that Bears general manager Phil Emery frowned upon the notion of his star pass-catcher stepping in the boxing ring, per ESPN.com's Jeff Dickerson:

In addition to that, Bears head coach Marc Trestman made it clear that the team would discuss the distraction with Marshall:

The Bears are currently a disappointing 3-6 after getting dismantled by the rival Green Bay Packers in Week 10, and it is quite obvious that the organization isn't interested in additional bad publicity.

Chicago has a huge game on tap against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11, and it needs to have 100 percent focus or else it risks a loss and the virtual end of its playoff hopes.

Marshall is on pace for one of his worst seasons with just 42 catches for 496 yards, and the added Twitter controversy certainly isn't helping his cause.
