NASCAR at Homestead 2014: Live Results and Analysis from the Ford EcoBoost 400
Kevin Harvick wins at Homestead and is the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion!
The final race of the season at Homestead saw three of the four final drivers running up in the front for most of the first half of the race.
Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano were all racing in the top three at one point, with Ryan Newman not too hard behind.
Of the drivers not in the Chase, Jeff Gordon was driving like he had a championship to win as he led the race several times and was the driver all the chase competitors were trying to pass.
The biggest issue for most drivers at Homestead seemed to be tires. Several drivers like A.J. Allmendinger, Marcos Ambrose and Trevor Bayne all hit the wall because they had issues maintaining their tires.
By Lap 212 it was Denny Hamlin battling Jeff Gordon for the lead. Hamlin has always run well at Homestead and was showing it throughout the Ford EcoBoost 400. Hamlin and the 11 team haven't run nearly as well as some of the other chase drivers, but were running well when it mattered at Homestead.
With 35 laps to go Jeff Gordon was out in front with Denny Hamlin behind him. For Hamlin through it wasn't about passing Gordon for the lead, it was about keeping the 4 car behind him.
The first contender to struggle was Joey Logano with only 15 laps to go. when the 22 came into the pits during a caution, the pit crew made a huge mistake with the jack and couldn't get the car up to put tires on it.
the 22 struggling on pit road served as a huge reminder of how much NASCAR is a team sport.
With a handful of laps left it was Harvick leading two other contenders, Hamlin and Newman.
Hamlin would mess up on the restart and even though Newman gave it his all he couldn't catch Harvick.
Harvick went on to win at Homestead and is the 2014 champion!
