Maualuga signs....

OneManCrimeWaveJul 29, 2009

According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Cincinnati Bengals have come to terms with former superstar USC linebacker, and second round pick, Rey Maualuga.

It appears the deal is for four years, but no financial terms have been made public.

If you are anything like me, I am absolutely jacked to have a guy like Maualuga on the team. I believe he is perfectly suited to play linebacker in the extremely physical AFC North, where REAL football is played. While it has yet to be seen, I think we are all going to be amazed by Maualuga's talent and feel fortunate he feel to us in the second round (I also have the exact same feeling with Michael Johnson.)

I am a little surprised by the fact that we signed Rey so quickly. I would have bet money on a short hold out by Rey, but I believe this says a lot about his maturity and the desire the Bengals have to lock up a guy like Maualuga and see to it that he has every opportunity to play in week one.

While I believe that he will be on the bench at the start of the season, I seriously doubt that Rashad Jeanty can hold off a guy with the talent of Maualuga (no offense to Jeanty.)

This signing leaves on first round pick Andre Smith and the team's third round choice, Michael Johnson, as the final two remaining picks left to be signed.
