Key Factors for Luis Suarez to Catch Fire for Barcelona

Jason PettigroveNov 18, 2014

When Luis Suarez signed for Barcelona, the general expectation was that he would hit the ground running upon commencement of his first-team duties.

Not scoring in his first three outings wasn't really part of the narrative, albeit the Uruguayan has provided three assists and worked diligently.

The match against Sevilla presents the next chance for Suarez to find the net and rid the monkey from his back.

Let's take a look at a few things that may spark him into life...

Extra Training Sessions

While Suarez is getting fitter by the day, a few extra training sessions wouldn't go amiss.

After being labelled as "overweight" by the Spanish press, according to Pete Jenson of the Daily Mail, the football world got their first glimpse of the Uruguayan in El Clasico, and he certainly was a little off the pace.

Only to be expected after four months out.

Regular games will increase match fitness but some time spent in the gym now will pay dividends later.

More Luck in Front of Goal

In the three games that he's played for Barcelona, we've seen the true face of Luis Suarez.

Known for his work rate while at Liverpool, he hasn't disappointed, doing everything but score.

Three assists show his all-round importance to the side and only inspired goalkeeping and a lick of paint has stopped us seeing his name on the scoresheet.

A little stroke of luck in front of goal will surely open the floodgates.

Recycling Possession Quicker

One of the main things that Barcelona have always been renowned for is their ability to keep the ball.

Teams can be passed off of the park if they allow the Blaugrana carousel to turn apace.

However, passing with no end product is worth little, and if the team want to spark Suarez into life, recycling the ball and possession quicker is imperative.

Already we've seen during this campaign that passes have invariably been delayed by a second or two, thus enabling opposition defences to set themselves and minimise any danger.

More urgency is required.

Better Support in the Channels

Assuming that Luis Enrique will install Suarez into a more central role, then appropriate support from the flanks is a necessity.

Dani Alves should continue to zip up and down the right side with his usual vigour and Jordi Alba needs to provide similar output.

If a roving, and therefore dangerous, Lionel Messi can open up the spaces, giving opportunities for the ball inside the full-back, Barca, and Suarez in particular, should profit handsomely.
