WWE 2K15: Xbox One, PS4 Release Date, Exclusive Features and More

Brian MaziqueNov 14, 2014

On Tuesday, the next generation of WWE video games will arrive; WWE 2K15 will release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There's a few things you should know.

Some features are present in this version of the game and the one that released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 28. The Universe mode and match types will be the same in both versions; however, there are quite a few exclusive features for next-gen WWE gamers.

Let's start with the eye candy.

Enhanced Visuals

Based on the screenshots we've seen, and my firsthand experience with the game during SummerSlam and a preview in September at the WWE Performance Center, I can tell you this is not only the best looking wrestling video game of all time, it's one of the most visually impressive titles on a console, regardless of genre.

Obviously, we have a frame of reference to "ooh and ahh" over as we compare the virtual Randy Orton to the real one, but there's no denying how cool the player models, arenas and fans look in the game.

MyCareer

The concept has been popularized by the NBA 2K franchise, but in all honesty, it seems custom made for a wrestling game. Taking one guy through an entire career with non-sports, gamelike cut scenes and storyline twists creates a perfect blend of athletics and drama.

That's essentially what professional wrestling is, and we can only hope that the MyCareer experience in WWE 2K15 delivers the goods.

Enhanced Creation Tool

We didn't get an improved version of NBA 2K15's face-scanning technology, but WWE 2K15 on next-gen consoles does boast a new and promising creation suite. Gamers can now upload an image of their face via their PC and then import it to the game for their custom wrestler.

EA Sports has had a feature similar to this for years. It's called "GameFace," but fans are hoping WWE 2K15 takes the concept to the next level.

To augment the creation tool, gamers can also upload images for use in the creation of logos, tattoos and other insignias for their created Superstars and existing ones in the game.

This is similar to an element EA Sports featured in NCAA Football. There's no harm in emulating features and putting a different spin on them.

Sim-Style Gameplay

Previous WWE video games have all had a very arcade, beat-em up feel. WWE 2K15 introduces what some might call sim-style wrestling. In the times I've had to play the game, it's been enjoyable.

The drama of a real match is conveyed with fatigued Superstars showing the wear and tear of a grueling match, and other cool animations and gameplay effects. It will be interesting to see how this angle is received on a widespread basis.

Ultimately, that could determine whether this title is deemed a success or a failure.
