He's Leaving LSU: Would You Want Ryan Perrilloux?

Justin HokansonMay 12, 2008

Ryan Perrilloux was finally dismissed from the LSU football team after yet another screw up and breaking of team rules. The latest failed drug test was just one incident in a long line of mistakes the quarterback has made in his time at LSU.

Coming out of high school, Perrilloux was labeled a "can't miss" prospect by the recruiting services and was the most coveted quarterback in the nation out of Baton Rouge.

I mean, who wouldn't want a 6'3", 230-pound quarterback thatย can run and throw?ย

Now, he's just another player who has seemingly thrown away his career due to a laundry list of screw ups (including being a main suspect involved in a counterfeit investigation, entering aย casino with a fake ID, being involved in a situation at a bar where he supposedly used racial slurs and was starting trouble, and missing team meetings and being late for a number of team workouts).

Would you still want him?

You have a guy who's got all the talent in the world, but alsoย seems to have some serious character flaws. What coach, whose job rides on winning and losing, wouldn't want to take a chanceย with him?

Obviously, Les Miles had enough of Perrilloux. Miles gave him too many chances, andย Perrilloux had toย be gone to avoid a team mutiny.

So nowย Division II schools all over the country are calling up the quarterback wanting him toย come to their school...sound familiar?

Theย kid is being recruited all over again. He's being told how good he is and thatย they are the school thatย can get himย to the NFLย andย turn him around.ย And no doubt these coaches are telling themselves that they can "save" Perrilloux.

Do you actually believe that?

These coaches see a talented quarterback and a guy who can help them win, period.

The problem with this scenario is that with Perrilloux being recruited again, he is also again being told how great he is.ย Do you think he even realizes how much he screwed up at LSU? Do you think he even cares?ย Maybe he did at first, but now I'm sure he'sย just loving the attention.

I guessย all he needs is a change in scenery, right? So Perrilloux is the kind of guy that'sย swayed by his surroundings? What kind of leader will that make?

Bottom line is some school wants Perrilloux to help them win, and they don't really care if theyย turnย him around or not. If heย messes up then they will just kick him off their team and he will become someone else's problem.
