Luis Suarez Opens Up on Weight, Lionel Messi, Psychological Help
Luis Suarez has yet to open his goal-scoring account with Barcelona, but it seems as though the Uruguayan superstar is settling in nicely with the Catalan giants.
In an interview with Uruguayan newspaper El Observador (h/t AS) Suarez touched on a variety of subjects pertaining to his Barcelona career, from Lionel Messi to his weight, which was once a talking point when he arrived at Barcelona.
He also admits that he gets psychological help from Barcelona:
"At no time was I overweight. It was like the coach (Luis Enrique) said at one point: 'Tell me when they saw a thin Luis Suárez'. He also said that, if they wanted, I had had liposuction, and that caused a lot of amusement.
The doctor that did the tests and studies at the club told me that I was one of of the six Barcelona players that had the lowest body-fat percentage and weight. What was said was something that caught my attention. But I laughed a lot and it caused me a lot of amusement. Especially when my Uruguay team-mates told me: 'Fatty, do not eat any more.' It did not affect me at any moment. It's something that's part of the newspaper game.
I knew that I was going to a club where the icons are Leo (Lionel Messi), Ney (Neymar) or (Andrés) Iniesta. I knew the role that I was going to fulfill and I had no problem meeting it. Some say that Messi makes the play, I distance myself and he doesn't give me it. But I speak with him or with Ney to tell them that I will take a marker with me and they can exploit the space.
"
Suarez and Uruguay face Costa Rica on Thursday night.
