Why the Seahawks can cover the spread
The Seahawks looked like they might be in trouble last week against the Giants, trailing at the half 17-14. But the Seattle running game eventually ground out 350 yards, and the Seahawks scored three unanswered fourth-quarter touchdowns to pull away for a 38-17 win and the cover as nine-point home favorites.
So after losing back-to-back games to Dallas and St. Louis, Seattle now rides a three-game winning streak into KC. And since the loss to the Cowboys, the Seahawks have outgained and outrushed four opponents in a row. Seattle now ranks 10th in total offense and third in total defense and has outrushed opponents by a league-high 91 yards per game.
Why the Chiefs can cover the spread
After losing their first two games of this season, the Chiefs have won six of their last seven SU and covered seven of their last eight. Last week KC trailed Buffalo 13-3 through three quarters but rallied for two scores and a 17-13 win. So at 6-3 SU, the Chiefs own the five seed in the AFC playoff race at the moment.
Kansas City only ranks 22nd in total offense but fifth in rushing at 136 yards per game, with help from running back Jamaal Charles, who's coming off his most productive game of the season. And the Chiefs defense ranks seventh overall, second in points allowed, at just 17 per game.
Smart Pick
This should be a good one and a tough one to pick. But Seattle is just a little too inconsistent at the moment, and Russell Wilson has shown he's human. Meanwhile, Kansas City is one of the hotter teams in the league and will have a raucous home-field crowd on its side. So the smart choice here goes with the Chiefs.
Betting Trends
- Seattle is 1-4 ATS in its last five games.
- Kansas City is 6-1 SU in its last seven games.
