A Look Into The Future: Tim Tebow's NFL Career
Since it is near the start of most NFL training camps and the college football season will be starting up in roughly a month from now, I thought it would be good to get this in before all the hype about a certain UF quarterback starts up again.
Tim Tebow is an amazing college quarterback. He has more tools at his disposal and the perfect system for him than does any other player in the NCAA. The only problem is he is not an NFL-ready quarterback and will likely never make it as one.
As a starter, Tebow has taken 869 snaps in the shotgun formation, while only 17 from under center. There is no team in the League that plays their offense in this fashion.
Tebow is also too quick to scramble out and make the run himself. If a quarterback does that against linebackers with the size and ferocity of Ray Lewis he will never last beyond only three seasons. Don't get me wrong, I know Tebow is strong and powerful and benches as much or more as most college linemen. However, that is exactly my argument.
Tim Tebow will make it into the NFL and can easily become a starter in his rookie season or at the very least his second season. It will not, however, be as a quarterback. Tebow would make one of the greatest NFL fullbacks or tightends.
He has the strength to run through blockers and gain those essential first downs that the FBs are used for. He would also be good at blocking as a TE and then going out for a short pass in coverage. I do not know how great his hands are, but I am certain they are on par with most tight ends in the League.
No, Tim Tebow will not be drafted as a quarterback. He may be used as one in certain situations to throw a team off, and could also be used for a HB pass play. But this will not be his primary position.
I know the Gators will whine all day long about this, saying he is the greatest thing since Steve Spurrier was their QB.
Oh well, maybe UF changes up their whole play style just so they can help Tebow become an NFL quarterback. Stranger things have happened.
