Michael Schumacher's Shock F1 Return Makes It Four World Champs on the Grid!
The news was officially broken to me by my dad, who burst into my room and said:
“Have you heard!?”
I replied, “Yeah, I know, BMW are out...”
“No,” he replied.
“What then?”
“Schumacher is coming back to F1!”
No longer will Sebastian Vettel be dubbed "the new Michael Schumacher," because, err, the old Michael Schumacher has returned to Formula One in place of Felipe Massa.
The 40-year-old Stig impersonator may have retired before the 2007 season but has agreed to drive at the European Grand Prix in Valencia on 23 August. Whether this will be a "WRC style" one-off race, I don’t know.
Personally, although I think it is sad that Ferrari’s two test drivers will not be getting the seat, I think it is lovely that Schumacher is officially keeping Massa’s seat warm.
Now you may be wondering why this Brawn Freak has taken the time to write this...well, aside from the fact that F1 has just gotten mega-exciting (What the hell is the Ferrari garage going to be like? Doesn’t Kimi Raikkonen dislike Schumy?), there may well also be a positive element for Brawn and Jenson Button.
The rise of McLaren will no doubt lead to further victories for the current World Champion, add to that the new speed from Fernando Alonso, and then add to that a seven-time World Champ in a little red car!
Granted, all of this may well take race wins away from Jen...but it will have the same effect on Red Bull too!
All I can say is...why the hell did they tell us now! We’ve got to wait a whole three weeks on the edge of our seats because of this announcement!
(I will just add I hope Michael has more luck in his F1 return than he did in the world of two-wheel racing!)
