Allsports say's, Whats Up Black Hawks?

Walt WebbJul 29, 2009

So if you have been keeping up on your sports news or sports on the web, you will know that the Black Hawks relieved Dale Tallon of his General Manager duties the other day. Whats up with that? Could it be a Bowman power play?

You see Scotty is an advisor for the Hawks now and his son Stan, has become the GM in Chicago, with Tallon being reassigned to the role of Senior Advisor, Hockey Operations. Scotty, allsports knows that you know your hockey, it is just that if you wanted to do the job all you had to do was ask. Allsports wanted you in Toronto but a pin head named Ritchard Pettie got in the way. Thankfully Pettie woke up and got out of the way for Brian Burke.

Lets be frank here, Tallon did not deserve this, he has done a great job in Chicago and has them knocking on the door for a Stanley Cup championship. Did he miss the dead line for a couple of free agent signings? Yes he did, so what, in the end he still signed them and maybe there were some methods to his madness.

The only strike allsports has against DaleTallon was the signing of perennial loser Marion Hossa to a 12 year contract. What were you thinking there Dale? Hossa has since had shoulder surgery.

Tallon was a great player in his day too. Drafted 2nd overall in 1970, by Vancouver. He could play it’s just that he was on crappy teams. He knows what it takes to win, but he never had the tools to accompany his talents when he was a player.

That being said good old Dale  did not deserve the crap the Black Hawks dealt to him. The Hawks have an awesomely talented team and will be in the thick of the Stanley Cup chase for years to come. They got a sniff last year and it was a good learning experience. Now they have an idea what it takes and they are one of the few teams out there that is worth the dollar to see perform.

Chicago has always been one of allsports favorite teams from the time of Bobby Hull and Stan Makita. They are in a great hockey town and the good fans of Chicago deserve this young entertaining club. Lets hope they can keep most of the young players together. They are on the verge of something special. They remind me of a young Oilers team in the early 80’s.

I am not saying that Stan Bowman is not qualified, I am sure he will do a great job as GM. What the Hawks should have done though is make Bowman a Co-GM with Tallon so it does not look like they are putting Dale Tallon out to pasture. Maybe the new title is just that but it does seem like the torch is being passed.
