Carrick Suffers Groin Knock
Just days after returning to Manchester United's starting lineup for the first time in four months, 33-year-old midfielder Michael Carrick is on the shelf once again.
The FA indicates Carrick will miss time as he recovers from a groin injury:
"Michael Carrick will return to his club on Wednesday evening after sustaining a minor groin injury in training this morning
The Manchester United midfielder will miss the games against Slovenia and Scotland.
There will be no call ups at this time.
"
Carrick spoke about his injury on Twitter:
Sky Sports News previously reported more details:
An ankle ailment previously kept Carrick out of action, but he came back and played well for the Red Devils against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Carrick's return to fitness even resulted in a call-up to the England national team for the first time in a year. Per Mark Froggatt and Adam Marshall of ManUtd.com, Carrick was thrilled to rejoin the Three Lions:
"It was good news. Obviously, it was disappointing to miss out on the World Cup in the summer but that's behind me now and, to be honest, I'm just happy to be fit and playing games at the minute. ... After being out for so long, it's great to get back in the squad here, first and foremost, and be around that. Especially last week, to get on and have a first taste of action and then get the call, it's been a good week.
"
Carrick looked to be in fine form upon his return from ankle issues, so it certainly must be frustrating to get bitten by the injury bug once again.
