Arland Bruce Traded To Hamilton
The Hamilton Tiger Cats have acquired Arland Bruce from the Toronto Agronauts for a package that includes a third round pick in the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft, the rights to non-import defensive end Corey Mace, and a conditional pick in the 2011 Canadian Draft.
The Tiger Cats originally acquired the rights to Corey Mace from the Blue Bombers for Zeke Moreno. Mace has spent the past two seasons in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills. He has been holding out for Hamilton to offer him more money prior to signing on to play for the franchise.
If Arland Bruce remains on Hamilton's roster in 2010 then Toronto will also receive the Tiger Cats best third round pick in the 2011 Canadian Draft.
Overall this is a good trade for Hamilton as you are essentially trading a starting linebacker in Zeke Moreno and a third round pick for a game breaking receiver in Arland Bruce. Also considering it was rumored that the Argos also wanted wide receiver Chris Bauman (a former first overall pick in the Canadian Draft) in exchange for Bruce.
The Tiger Cats have added a gifted offensive performer (when he is focussed properly) without removing any players from their current roster. General Manager Bob O'Billovich is certainly leading this team back towards the playoffs.
When asked of the recent difficulties that led to the Agros wanting to trade Bruce O'Billovich stated, "We are certain that in the environment (head coach) Marcel Bellefeuille has created around our team this season, Arland will be a respected teammate in our locker room and a valuable member of our community."
This transaction will add yet another storyline to the long time rivalry between Hamilton and Toronto. Fans should look forward to the annual Labor day game that is played between these two rivals. Arland Bruce will surely be a motivated player during the game against the team that did not want him.
