Ramsey Hamstring Problem Emerges
Thursday, Dec. 11
Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey is having a disappointing 2014-15 season, and things reportedly took a turn for the worse on Thursday, as the Welshman will need a scan on a hamstring injury, according to manager Arsene Wenger.
Wenger talked about Ramsey's issues, according to Arsenal's official website: "Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) will be checked today and tomorrow, so we’ll see."
The talented midfielder had a phenomenal 2013-14 campaign that saw him establish himself as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League, but his form has abandoned him in the new campaign, and the Gunners have struggled as a result.
Wenger has already called out the 23-year-old for his performances, as reported by BBC Sport. While Ramsey is facing criticism for his lack of scoring this season, Wenger claimed it goes well beyond that: "It's not about goal-scoring. Goal-scoring is a consequence of playing well first so focus on playing well. You have to keep your priorities right as a midfielder, defend well and attack well and give good goals to the other players."
Bleacher Report UK's James McNicholas summarises:
"Inevitably, he followed the cup coronation by being crowned Arsenal’s official Player of the Year. The acclaim was universal. There was no realistic rival to his throne.
However, this season his form has dramatically declined. This Ramsey looks more akin to the inconsistent player who became a lightning conductor for criticism at Arsenal between 2011 and 2013.
"
Despite Ramsey's struggles, he remains a key component of Arsenal's midfield. His ability as a distributor and wide range of play are pivotal in the buildup, and with no real physical threat at the holding midfielder spot, his defensive contributions are often overlooked.
The Welshman has had a string of injury problems during his young career, including a hamstring issue earlier this season, per the Guardian's David Hytner, and a devastating thigh injury that saw him miss a large part of the 2013-14 season.
The youngster seemingly cannot shake the injury bug. Arsenal fans must hope his form will return.
