Possible Fedor Signing Should Answer Questions, But Sparks New Ones

Darren WongJul 28, 2009

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Fedor Emelianenko and the UFC are close to finalizing a deal.

After years of anticipation, the wait may finally be over.

Back in 2007, fans wanted to know how Randy Couture would do against Fedor. Now, fans are more interested in Lesnar vs. Fedor. If we get a little bit of luck, maybe we'll see both fights happen.

If the wait is indeed over, there are a lot of new questions that need to be asked. Here are a few.

1. Who can challenge the UFC?

Zuffa currently has the top fighter in every single weight class except for heavyweight. This was the one blemish in the organization. If the UFC has all of the top-ranked fighters, it now becomes even more difficult to imagine potential competitors.

2. What are the UFC haters going to hold on to now?

For years, MMA fans who dislike the UFC have consistently bashed the organization for its failure to sign Emelianenko. If Fedor is in the UFC, they'll need to reach deeper into their bag of complaints.

3. What is Steve Cofield going to do?

Yahoo! blogger Steve Cofield interviews Dana White on what seems like a monthy basis. Despite beating the arguments to death, Cofield has continued to bring up Emelianenko in nearly every single interview, to the point that Dana and Cofield rarely talk about anything else but Fedor's P4P status.

If Fedor is in the UFC, what will Cofield have to talk about now? Ditto Michael Landsberg.
