Geno Atkins Suffers Knee Injury
Thursday night's game against the Cleveland Browns can't get much worse for the Cincinnati Bengals. Late in the fourth quarter, they trail 24-3.
Sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson also revealed that All-Pro defensive tackle Geno Atkins injured his knee in the second half (via Around the NFL):
Losing a player of Atkins' ability is worrying enough, but the concern is heightened considering his past injury history. He tore an ACL in his right knee a little over a year ago.
When he’s at his best, Atkins is one of a handful of defensive tackles who can single-handedly impact a game. In 41 games from 2011 to 2013, he had 26 sacks.
As the Bengals attempt to make the postseason for the fourth year in a row and advance past the Wild Card Round, Atkins will undoubtedly play a key role.
Cincinnati can ill afford to lose the 26-year-old. Any hopes of a deep playoff run would dwindle significantly if he misses a major chunk of time.
