Andy Dalton's Fantasy Trade Value, Updated Outlook After Week 10

R. Cory SmithNov 6, 2014

Any hopes of selling high on Andy Dalton after a matchup with the Cleveland Browns now look bleak. An abysmal first half gave way to an awful second as Dalton gave owners nightmares on Thursday night.

Even with his full repertoire of weapons in the passing game, Dalton was unable to lead the team down the field and put up numbers for his fantasy owners in the first two quarters.

The second half got off to a similar start as Dalton nearly threw an interception on the first drive. Cleveland then ran the clock down on a methodical drive that resulted in a 24-3 lead with just 4:46 remaining in the third quarter. Overall, it simply wasn't a pretty performance for the Bengals.

Ian Kenyon of Bleacher Report noted the struggles for Dalton at that point:

Though he recovered with some yards in the fourth quarter, the Bengals quarterback threw two more interceptions. With just over four minutes remaining in the fourth, Dalton was replaced by Jason Campbell after posting negative points in standard leagues.

ESPN Stats & Info also pointed out just how inaccurate Dalton was on the night:

Much like Philip Rivers the week prior and several other quarterbacks who have struggled, Thursday night wasn't the real Dalton, right? For owners in deep leagues looking to get some value out of him, his latest outing certainly wasn't helpful.

However, he does have weapons around him and another one that might be healthy soon in Giovani Bernard. Regaining chemistry with A.J. Green seems to be taking longer than expected, but the two will likely rekindle it soon.

After all, it was Green that dropped multiple passes despite Dalton being swarmed at the line of scrimmage by the Browns. Frank Schwab of Yahoo noted the struggles for Green were likely due to Joe Haden:

However, three interceptions by a quarterback aren't a result of any receiver.

Coming into the game with a total of 10 touchdowns, Dalton has just eight passing scores on the season. That puts him at four less than Ben Roethlisberger—over the last two weeks.

Equipped with Green and Sanu, Dalton might very well bounce back from his game against the Browns. Unfortunately, with the fantasy season dwindling down, owners don't have much more time to wait or even strike up a trade with another player.

Going against the New Orleans Saints next week and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers later in November, Dalton has the matchups to thrive. But with the ineptitude he showed against the Browns—at home, on Thursday Night Football—it's difficult to give Dalton another chance.
