Earvin "Magic" Johnson is one of the greatest players in NBA history, so it's tough not to respect what he has to say about basketball. His most recent comments, however, seem a bit far-fetched.

Johnson—who has served as an NBA analyst for ESPN in the past—took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the 2014-15 season.

Magic got things started off with a bang when he said that his former team is playing "exciting basketball."

I know the Lakers are 0-5, but they are playing exciting basketball and Kobe is worth the price of admission.

The Lakers are off to an 0-5 start and losing by an average of 14.8 points per game. They've maintained a 102 points-per-game average through five games, but not many people would describe the team as "exciting."

Magic then sent out some tweets that made a little bit more sense.

I went to the Heat/Rockets game last night and both teams are legitimate championship contenders.

The Rockets with the addition of Trevor Ariza and a very improved Patrick Beverley will be a tough team in the West!

I definitely got a chance to watch 4 early MVP candidates play in Harden, Howard, Wade and Bosh!

However, he lost some people when talking about candidates for the NBA Most Valuable Player Award.

Kobe should also be in the early MVP talks with LeBron, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis, Carmelo, Curry, Thompson and Rose.

Other early MVP candidates are Wall, LaMarcus Aldridge, Tony Parker & Dirk. When Westbrook & Durant get back they will be in the mix also.

No disrespect to Derrick Rose, but it feels early to predict season-long greatness in someone who has played in just two out of his team's four games. If Rose is able to get healthy and play a "full" season, he will have a real shot at coming away victorious. As of now, he probably isn't among the MVP favorites.

To be fair, Johnson did give a pretty deep list that named plenty of good candidates.

Magic does know the game very well, but some of his recent tweets appear to be reaching a bit.
