Dortmund's Marco Reus Completes Epic Monkey Emojis Trilogy After Losing Bet

Sean FayNov 5, 2014

Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus has been producing some odd celebrations lately, to such an extent that journalists have started asking what they are all about.

Reus has been linked with a host of top European clubs recently and so reporters wondered if the celebrations had anything to do with that.

"I can not tell you what it’s all about, I’ve lost a bet…it's nothing to do with transfer speculation,” came Reus' reply as per 101 Great Goals' translation of an interview with Focus.de.

And you know what, Reus isn't lying; it has a far more childish meaning, as people on Twitter figured out.

The monkeys have become social media phenomenon but their origins actually go back to Japanese folklore, with the three wise monkeys representing the principle of "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil."

Reus' first celebration came during the German Cup clash with St. Pauli.

No. 2 came in the 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich at the weekend.

And he completed the trilogy with a goal against Galatasaray on Tuesday night.

With all three now complete, we await with interest what he comes up with next!
