Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Wheaton Active For Week 5
Monday, Oct. 12
The Steelers announced Wheaton was not among the inactives for the team's game against the San Diego Chargers.
How Wheaton's Injury Could Impact Steelers
Having already lost Martavis Bryant to a suspension to start the season, Pittsburgh had to be hoping its other playmakers could stay on the field. Fortunately, the fact that Wheaton was listed as probable to return to the game following his injury bodes well for his status moving forward, even though he didn't re-enter the contest.
Wheaton was a third-round pick in the 2013 NFL draft but had a quiet rookie year in part because of a persistent finger injury. Now, he has come into his own as a capable No. 2 wideout in Pittsburgh's passing game, which is headlined by reigning NFL receiving champion Antonio Brown.
The Steelers can count on Darrius Heyward-Bey and rookie third-round pick Sammie Coates for now. Heyward-Bey stepped up with a touchdown grab against the Ravens.
The Steelers also have the benefit of a dynamic all-purpose running back in Le'Veon Bell to hand the rock to in the event the aerial attack suffers with Michael Vick under center while Ben Roethlisberger recovers from a knee injury.
