LaRon Landry Activated by Colts: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

Timothy RappNov 4, 2014

LaRon Landry has been activated by the Indianapolis Colts after being suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy and spending a fifth game out of action after the team didn't activate him against the New York Giants, taking advantage of a roster exemption.

Landry will not start vs. New England in Week 11.

Chuck Pagano Speaks on LaRon Landry's Role vs. New England

Chuck Pagano said that LaRon Landry will not start vs. the Patriots and explained his decision, via Mike Wells of ESPN:

Tuesday, Nov. 4

The team announced the roster move on its official site Tuesday:

"

The Indianapolis Colts today activated safety LaRon Landry from the Exempt/Commissioner Permission list and activated tackle Xavier Nixon from Injured Reserve/Designated for Return. The team waived cornerback Jalil Brown and tackle Jamon Meredith from the active roster and waived fullback Stanley Havili from Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (Failed Physical).

"

Landry is now in his second season with the Colts. In 2013, he appeared in 12 games, finishing with 87 tackles and two pass deflections. He was the starter for the first four games this year as well, notching 23 tackles and a sack, which made his absence from Monday's game a bit curious.

Per Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star, "Pagano and his staff had been weighing whether to use Landry Monday night, saying his need to re-acclimate himself to football after missing a month was the chief factor" when ultimately deciding against activating him.

Now, Landry will have the bye week to get back into the swing of things ahead of the team's crucial Week 11 clash against the red-hot New England Patriots.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Landry will return to his starting role. If he was considered an indispensable member of the secondary, it's hard to imagine the Colts would have sat him for a game after he was eligible to return.

The Colts are currently 6-3 and first place in the AFC South.
