Mourinho and Ferguson shared a bit of a love-hate relationship while the Portuguese tactician was at Stamford Bridge but it is suggested that Mourinho would jump at the chance to replace Ferguson at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been at the helm of Manchester United for some 23 years now, Holy Cow!
Despite several rumours of retirement and earlier falling back on a planned "hangin' of boots" in 2002, the sixty-something Scot continues to fight.
Last season, his health was reported to be steadily deteriorating due to the constant travelling but Ferguson, it appears, has no intention of stepping down any time soon.
Though when he does, Manchester United will have a bit of a headache in choosing his replacement.
Ferguson's son, Darren, is believed to be a contender. Darren is currently managing "The Posh", Peterborough in the Championship.
Mike Phelan, Ferguson's wingman, and Carlos Quieroz, who left United to take up the Portuguese job, are also contenders.
Eric Cantona, David Moyes, Brian McClair, Roy Keane, Steve Bruce, Bryan Robson, and even Mark Hughes (forget it, he's at City) are also names who have popped up in the past.
Another addition to this list is that of Jose Mourinho, who is excited by the prospect of taking up Fergie's role.
"I would consider going to Manchester United but United have to consider if they want me to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson."
"If they do, then of course."
Jose earned the reputation of being a bit of a big mouth in his time with the Blues and he couldn't resist throwing a cheap-shot at his former club who have failed to win the league since his departure.
"Since I left I became champion again (at Inter Milan) but they (Chelsea) have not been champions again."
"I keep on winning and they don't."
Do you think Mourinho would be an adequate replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson, once the gaffer, if ever, chooses to retire?
