North Carolina Tar Heels junior running back Romar Morris was arrested and charged with impaired driving DWI Sunday morning at 4:12 a.m. ET in Chapel Hill, according to Harold Gutmann of The Herald-Sun.
The school will release a statement Monday, per Gutmann, who provided the following details about the incident:
"Morris, 22, was arrested at 4:12 a.m. on Misty Woods Circle. He was booked at the Chapel Hill Police Department, presented to a magistrate and then released 'to a sober person' at 5:30 a.m. on a written promise to appear in court, according to the arrest report.
"
The program later announced that it had suspended Morris for the game vs. Pittsburgh, via InsideCarolina.com:
Morris is a major piece in a crowded North Carolina backfield and has been one of the most consistent producers amongst the group. He made his 11th career start against Miami in Week 10, but only managed 23 yards on five carries in the blowout loss.
In nine games during the 2014 regular season, he has 44 carries for 162 yards and four touchdowns. He also has 17 catches for 146 yards.
The Tar Heels do not have a game in Week 11, and the next matchup on the schedule is a home contest against Pittsburgh on Nov. 15. North Carolina has a record of 4-5 and is fourth in the ACC Coastal standings.
