Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported what he was hearing on Ryan Shazier's ankle injury:
Original Text
As the Pittsburgh Steelers head into the second half against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, they'll do so without Ryan Shazier.
The rookie linebacker exited the game with an ankle injury and is doubtful to return, per Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun:
Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette would provide an update in the third quarter:
"Polamalu (left leg) and Shazier (ankle) out for good for Steelers
— Ed Bouchette (@EdBouchette) November 3, 2014"
After Pittsburgh's big win, ESPN's Scott Brown provided an update in the locker room:
The Observer-Reporter's Dale Lolley reported earlier in the game that the team re-taped Shazier's ankle in an attempt to get him back on the field, but it didn't work:
Shazier entered Week 9 eighth on the team in tackles, with 16. The first-round draft pick also has eight assisted tackles and a pass deflection to his name in 2014.
He's already missed time this year with a sprained MCL he suffered back in September. Luckily for both him and the team, this injury doesn't appear to be connected at all with his previous malady.
While Shazier doesn't play a vital role in the Pittsburgh defense, he provides some depth at inside linebacker, which is always an asset.
With the way that injuries have hit the Steelers this year, that depth will be necessary as the team makes its push for the playoffs.
