Darren McFadden, Marcel Reece, Maurice Jones-Drew's Post-Week 9 Fantasy Reaction

Chris RolingNov 2, 2014

Those fantasy owners who gambled on the Seattle Seahawks looking miserable against running backs for the third straight week with the Oakland Raiders in town did one thing in Week 9: lose.

The trio of Darren McFadden, Marcel Reece and Maurice Jones-Drew fell flat on its face, although there are plenty of lessons to learn from the outing that apply to future weeks.

But first, the miserable totals:

M. Reece11010.00112032
M. Jones-Drew2-2-1.00111021

It is a strange day at the office indeed when McFadden leads his team in receiving, but so it goes for the hapless Raiders.

That nugget makes McFadden an important commodity, though, as it at least shows his increasingly iron grip on every-down duties will stay on its current trajectory. Jones-Drew is a shell of his former self at this point, while Reece is a fullback who moonlights with a few carries here and there.

It is critical to point out that 23 of McFadden's receiving yards came on one checkdown against the stingy Seattle defense. Ditto for the fact that two of his next three opponents (Denver and Kansas City) rank among the top eight teams that surrender the fewest points to backs on average.

Still, McFadden is owned in 63.2 percent of leagues and can surely be had cheap after a miserable outing. He is not a horrific add for those owners in serious need of help thanks to bye weeks, especially considering he seems guaranteed a respectable amount of touches.

That is not something most waiver-wire or buy-low adds come equipped with at this point of the season, and McFadden has proved capable in the past. He remains the only back to own in Oakland.
