WPS Enters Final Week of Fan Voting for All-Star Game

With just two weeks left in the WPS regular season, the WPS All-Star Game votes are coming in fast. The fan vote closes on July 31 at 8pm ET/5pm PT, so there’s still time for fans to select their favorite WPS stars to play in the inaugural WPS All-Star Game.

The WPS All-Stars will be taking on the Swedish champion Umea IK at The Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park in Fenton, MO, on Sunday, August 30 with live coverage on Fox Soccer Channel and select Fox Sports Nets beginning at 5pm Eastern (check local listings).

The leading vote-getters from the on-line fan vote by position, with one week left to cast online ballots, shows St. Louis Athletica goal keeper, Hope Solo, with the most commanding lead over Karina LeBlanc from the league-leading Los Angeles Sol.

The leading defenders to this point are Heather Mitts (Boston Breakers), Cat Whitehill (Washington Freedom), and Christie Rampone (Sky Blue FC), who has a slim lead over Tina Ellerston (St. Louis Athletica).

The leading vote-getters of the lot of mid-fielders are Lori Chalupny (St. Louis Athletica), Shannon Boxx (Los Angeles Sol), Sonia Bompastor (Washington Freedom), Heather O’Reilly (Sky Blue FC), with Kristine Lilly (Boston Breakers) and Camille Abily (Los Angeles Sol) tied for the fifth and final slot.

Amongst the forwards, Marta (Los Angeles Sol) and Abby Wambach (Washington Freedom) hold a sizable lead over the rest of the pack of forwards.
