Payton Comments on Severity of Robinson's Injury

Monday, Nov. 2

Saints head coach Sean Payton announced Robinson's "season has come to an end" after undergoing surgery last night. Evan Woodbery of NOLA.com noted Robinson will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Players, Fans Honor Robinson Following Injury

Sunday, Nov. 1

Katherine Terrell of NOLA.com, Jason Lisk of TheBigLead.com and the Saints, respectively, captured the impact of the injury and the atmosphere:

"

Robinson's right leg/ankle looked like it was rolled on by a Giants player after he made a run near the goal line. Robinson did not get up from the ground, and teammates started to gather around as athletic trainers inspected his right leg. With several teammates holding his hand and kneeling next to him, trainers put an air cast, usually reserved for breaks or fractures, on his right leg. Robinson was then lifted off the ground by tackle Terron Armstead, who helped put him in a cart.

Ingram, Spiller to Be Leaned on After Robinson's Injury

Power rusher Mark Ingram and electric playmaker C.J. Spiller are in the backfield to give the Saints a formidable one-two punch, but both have struggled to be consistent during their NFL careers. Robinson didn't have as much wear and tear, entering his third year with just 130 carries.

Prior to exiting in Week 8, Robinson rushed four times for four yards and added two receptions for 13 yards.

Adequate depth at the position, along with a prolific passing attack triggered by quarterback Drew Brees, makes Robinson's absence from the lineup a little less severe than it might be for most NFL teams.

Robinson's rise into a contributing role as a 2013 undrafted free agent is a prime example of just how interchangeable running backs have become in the modern NFL. The Saints are ahead of the curve with their surplus of viable tailbacks.

Payton is a brilliant offensive mind and has enough weapons still at his disposal to put Brees in a position to continue thriving.
