WWE 2K15: Review of Superstar and Diva Ratings

Brian MaziqueOct 30, 2014

Ratings in WWE games aren't the same lightning rod for conversation that they are in titles like Madden and NBA 2K. Gamers tend to just play with their favorite guys and girls from WWE.

I'd venture to say that few fans ever bother to look up the ratings of each Superstar and Diva in WWE 2K15. I took a few moments to take note of the player ratings of the Superstars included in the retail version on Xbox 360 and a few of the Superstars I'd unlocked thus far in my time in 2K Showcase and Who Got NXT.

Here's the best of the best and a few head-scratchers.

The Top Dogs

John Cena, 96

Say what you want about Cena, but he is the "Face that Runs the Place." No Superstar works harder, inspires as much emotion and is better at delivering an attention-grabbing speech.

Despite what many of his critics may think, Cena isn't the worst worker in the ring. With 15 world championships, he deserves to be the highest-rated Superstar in the game.

Being on the cover helps, too.

Daniel Bryan, 94

Obviously, Bryan is absent but not forgotten, at least not by the folks who decided his rating in WWE 2K15. The leader of the Yes Movement comes in with a 94 overall rating, trumped only by Cena.

Based on recent news, this might be the only place you get an opportunity to see Bryan wrestle for a while. Bryan needs a second surgery to repair his injured shoulder, per Brian Fritz of the Sporting News.

Here's to hoping he returns to action soon.

Undertaker, 93

We may never see The Undertaker in a WWE ring again, but he sure is good in the latest video game. The Phenom's rating is tied for the third-highest amongst those included in the retail roster. Apparently, the game's designers didn't sour on The Deadman after he took a medieval beating from Brock Lesnar.

We can only hope he makes it back into the ring for a proper send-off.

Sheamus, 93

To borrow a word from The Miz...really? Sheamus is cool and one of the better in-ring performers amongst the big guys, but rating him a 93 is perplexing.

Not since his WWE Championship run in 2009 and 2010 was Sheamus worthy of what equates to the third-highest rating in the game. Sheamus is a steady guy, but a 93 is just a tad too high for him. A 90 would have been more appropriate.

Brock Lesnar, 92

The One in 21-1 is now the reigning and defending WWE world heavyweight champion. That's apparently good for a 92 overall rating.

You could make the argument that Lesnar's rating could be higher than both Cena and Undertaker's after he decimated both in 2014. But this is the WWE, and career accomplishments will always carry some weight.

Because Cena has been the champion more times than Lesnar has appeared on WWE programming in 2014, he kinda deserves the nod. Taker's legendary status also allows me to accept a one-point edge over the Beast.

You Gotta Be Kidding Me

AJ > The Bellas

How in the world is AJ Lee rated beneath both of the Bella Twins? I know those two held down the Divas division—if that's what you want to call it—while AJ was out for a brief time earlier this year, but as the Divas champion once put it, the twins couldn't "lace up her Chuck Taylor's."

This is really not meant to be disrespectful to either of the Bellas—especially not Nikki who has become oh-so-awesome since turning heel—but AJ is the class of the Divas division. She'll likely remain that way until the WWE finds a way to pry Ronda Rousey out of the UFC cage.

Oh, it's going to happen one day.

Sami Zayn is Better Than Dolph Ziggler?

Don't get me wrongSami Zayn is amazing, and he should have made his WWE debut before this past September. That said, he hasn't accomplished enough to be put higher than the current intercontinental champion.

Zayn is rated an 86 while The Showoff is an 84. We're talking about a former WWE world champion compared to a guy who hasn't hit WWE main programming on a regular basis.

Perhaps this is a product of the burial Ziggler was suffering earlier in the year. Things like this might make a good case for roster updates in WWE games.

Just think about it. There are ways that feuds and storylines could be wrapped around Superstars and Divas' ratings in the game. NFL and NBA players have been known to take issue with their ratings in sports games, and it could surely be a permissible angle in a WWE feud.

I'm just saying.
