Vincent Jackson a Savvy Fantasy Football Buy-Low Target

Tim KeeneyOct 28, 2014

The NFL trade deadline came and passed, and no team was able to strike a deal for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Vincent Jackson.

That doesn't mean you need to do the same in the fantasy world.

Limited by the Bucs' anemic offense, Jackson has been a disappointment thus far. He's on pace for 59 receptions, 816 yards and four touchdowns, and his one-catch, 13-yard performance in Week 8 likely has his owners ready to cut ties.

Use that recency bias to your advantage. He's a WR2 who you'll likely be able to acquire at a much cheaper price.

First of all, it's never a bad idea to bet on talent. The 6'5", 241-pound Jackson is a downfield and red-zone monster who has produced at least 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in each of his last five full seasons.

And as NFL Philosophy on Twitter noted, he has done it before with less-than-ideal circumstances surrounding him:

The second key to fantasy success is opportunity, and Jackson gets that in droves. Although he received just five targets in Week 8, he has still tallied 40 targets in Mike Glennon's four starts under center. Comparatively, only five wide receivers (Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, Golden Tate, Jeremy Maclin, Demaryius Thomas) are averaging 10 targets per game.

Even with the continued emergence of rookie Mike Evans, Jackson is still the clear go-to option on a team that will often be playing from behind and currently has nothing working in the run game. There's immense value in that.

Finally, take a look at his remaining schedule:

13Cincinnati14.31

With the exception of a tough stretch during Weeks 13 and 14, every opponent is in the bottom half of the league in giving up fantasy points to wide receivers. Moreover, Weeks 15 and 16, the two most important games in many leagues, present two beatable matchups.

Whether you need wins now or are in good position and just looking to prepare for the playoffs, Jackson is a tremendous target who can be acquired at a steep discount.
