Tom Coughlin Speaks on Schwartz's Recovery

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com has an update on Geoff Schwartz's status:

"

After two months out, Schwartz, who was expected to be the team's starting left guard, returned to the practice field this week. He's still not near ready for game action. The veteran lineman spent most of the open period of practice Friday watching his teammates run drills.

'He moves around OK. He still has some restrictions there,' coach Tom Coughlin said. 'But it's good to have him out there.'

Part of the restrictions might have something to do with the house on top of Schwartz's cleat. The specially-made footwear seems to vertically add five extra inches of protection to the shoe.

When asked if Schwartz had a chance to be ready for Monday, Coughlin seemed taken aback.

'Be ready for when?' he said.

When told the question was about Monday night, he left little doubt where that injury situation stood.

'I would say that is a reach,' Coughlin said.

Schwartz Unlikely to Return for Week 9

With a bye to rest their injured players, the New York Giants were hoping to get back offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz for their Week 9 contest against the explosive Indianapolis Colts. There were mixed reports about whether that would happen, however.

Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com provided the following update:

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com doesn't seem optimistic that Schwartz will be ready to go, though:

The Giants could certainly use him. With a terrible start to the 2014 NFL season in a division that has seen the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles get off to strong starts, it is going to be incredibly difficult for the team to reach the postseason.

It's an all-hands-on-deck week for the Giants, and getting Schwartz back—he's yet to play this season after being injured in the preseason—to help protect Eli Manning is vital for New York.
