WWE 2K15: Analyzing Coolest Features Guaranteed to Captivate Gamers

Mike ChiariOct 26, 2014

WWE 2K15 is perhaps the most highly anticipated professional wrestling video game of all time, and it is easy to understand why based on the laundry list of awesome features that will be included.

The game is set to hit shelves for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on Oct. 28 in North America before being released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Nov. 18. While 2K has kept things like Superstar entrances and likenesses under wraps to some degree, that has only served to generate even more excitement among gamers.

Since this is WWE's second year under the 2K umbrella and first year on the next-gen consoles, expectations are through the roof. Here is a closer look at a few of the features that could very well put WWE 2K15 in the conversation with some of the greatest wrestling video games ever.

MyCareer Mode Featuring NXT

One thing that the WWE video games have lacked in recent years is a true storyline mode. While WWE Universe allows gamers to create their own vision of the product, there isn't much structure to it. That changes on WWE 2K15 with MyCareer, which allows players to create a Superstar and guide them from the bottom of the ladder to the top rung.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of this mode is the involvement of NXT. Since the inception of WWE Network, NXT has become an important and popular brand for the company. Because of that, it makes all the sense in the world to include it in the video game.

As seen in this tweet courtesy of WWE 2K, NXT stars such as Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville and Corey Graves will play a crucial role in MyCareer:

According to Matthew Artus and Michael Murphy of WWE.com, MyCareer will allow gamers to experience the WWE Performance Center and guidance from trainer Bill DeMott.

Those who have seen it in action seem thoroughly impressed, including Zayn, who knows precisely what it is like to improve his craft at the Performance Center:

"

When 2K came to the WWE Performance Center and I got to see the graphics and the gameplay, seeing the WWE Performance Center on screen in a video game world blew my mind. Right down to Bill DeMott at ringside, coaching you, getting in your head. I mean, I couldn't believe it.

"

MyCareer has become extremely popular and successful in other 2K games like the NBA 2K series. It seems like a natural fit for WWE, especially since creating and customizing Superstars is one of the game's biggest strengths.

This is a feature that has a great deal of potential moving forward, but all signs point to it being spectacular from the very start.

2K Showcase Rivalry Mode

Wrestling fans always seem to value realism when it comes to WWE's video games, and there is no question that WWE 2K15 delivers in that regard on many levels. Perhaps chief among them is the inclusion of 2K Showcase, which is a mode that features the epic rivalries of John Cena vs. CM Punk and Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels, per WWE.2K.com.

This particular mode allows gamers to relive those rivalries by playing out the matches in the game and watching footage from the real thing as well. Considering how many great moments there were in the aforementioned feuds, one can only assume that this will be a crowd-pleaser.

Punk's involvement in such a prominent mode is somewhat controversial considering the manner in which he left the company. With that said, the WWE Universe is obviously excited to utilize him, as evidenced by this WWE 2K vine:

Regardless of what happens with Punk moving forward, he has an important place in WWE history, and 2K Showcase will feature several of the moments that helped him reach the pinnacle of the sport.

Add in Triple H and Michaels, who were both the best of friends and bitter rivals, and there is a lot to like about the potential of this particular mode.

Season Pass and DLC

While the version of WWE 2K15 that is on the disc when gamers buy it is enough to keep them entertained for months on end, 2K is offering up an exciting package of downloadable content to take the replay value to another level.

According to WWE.2K.com, there are seven different packages that gamers will have the opportunity to purchase. They include an accelerator to unlock everything in the game, three additional 2K Showcases, WCW and NXT Superstars and moves packs.

Buying some of them as part of the WWE 2K15 Season Pass cuts the overall price significantly and unlocks two-time Divas champion Paige as a playable character as well, per WWE 2K on Twitter:

In addition to Paige, the DLC includes many other characters who aren't in the game otherwise. Current Superstars like Adam Rose and The Ascension can be had along with legends such as Andre the Giant, "Macho King" Randy Savage and "Ravishing" Rick Rude among others.

Above all else, though, the 2K Showcases are the meat and potatoes of the DLC. They provide hours of extra entertainment, and they focus on popular Superstars Christian, Mark Henry and The Ultimate Warrior, as seen in this WWE 2K tweet:

Although some gamers aren't big fans of sinking additional money into a game they already bought, there is no doubt that 2K has created an enticing buffet of further content and characters.

Because of that, it is likely that many WWE 2K15 owners simply won't be able to resist the allure of the Season Pass.
