5 Under The Radar Issues For The FIns of 2009

David MeshelJul 25, 2009

HERE YA GO:  Hope you like it:

5 Under or slightly over the radar issues facing the Fins for 2009.

1. Issue #1:  Who is Cameron Wake and what will he do on our roster? Well, we know he is the leading sack leader of the Canadian Football League but he was described as "ordinary" by one dolphin insider recently.  The guy is huge and was also described as a "man among men" during OTA's.  Obviously the brass saw something in this guy and as Tony Sparano says "you can never have enough pass rushers."  Somebody needs to see if Cameron has that extra gear as pass rusher and if he does-- look out AFC East because then you have Porter, Roth, Jason Taylor, and mad Cameron coming at ya --yikes!!

2. Issue #2: I will keep it short and simple. What was Miami thinking in getting Ernest Wilford and paying him all that money.  A more interesting question is why the Miami brass has not acknowledged their mistake.  Good organizations don't stay in denial long and in this case they swung and missed.  They are thinking of him as a kind of tight end/half back but to me that is more denial.  Sorry Ernest but those wide out slots need to be hits if we are to face the likes of the Ravens again.

3. Issue #3: Who is this Anthony Armstrong kid and can he do as well in pads as he apparently did during OTA's?  He watched from the bleachers last year and was chomping at the bit to play. He is as fast as the wind and is hungry. That sounds like the Dolphins of 2009.  My dark-horse is Brendon Marion (hope he is all healed and he can explode routes).

4. Issue #4: How are the Dolphins going to throw the long ball?  Everyone knows Pennington is a leader and very accurate short and mid range and a class act!  The problem is that defenses know him well and are going to bring their safeties up as they are not worried about the long ball.  Ted Ginn can keep them honest but not if Pennington is the thrower.  Sorry Chad, we love you but you don't scare the deep secondaries on most teams.  Maybe he should hit the weight room more.  We need to solve this or come up with something very creative by the time the playoffs come.  And yes, we will be there.

5. Issue #5: Where is the blind spot(s) of the current regime (Sparano, Ireland, and the Tuna)? I say it is their inability to shore up the WR position.  I love Camarillo, Ginn, and Bess but it stops there.  Ginn is not really utilized well because Pennington can't get behind the safeties.

Skinny: Miami needs 1 more hard hitting LB, 1-2 more WR's and for Cameron Wake to be the real deal to make it to the AFC crown.  Oh, and please sign Clemons as he was a huge VALUE pick.  Lastly, picture this (Pat White in motion behind Chad).  Hmmmmm.
