WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from October 23, 2014

Erik BeastonOct 23, 2014

Fighting champion Adrian Neville was once again pushed to the limits Thursday as he squared off against WWE main roster star Titus O'Neil in the main event of this week's edition of NXT, exclusively on the WWE Network!

Neville overcame the former Prime Time Player with a Red Arrow following a hard-fought victory, but it was a post-match showdown with Sami Zayn that could dictate the immediate future of the Englishman and his championship.

Becky Lynch shocked the NXT Universe by turning heel and attacking Bayley, leaving hand-in-hand with Sasha Banks. It remains to be seen how the new pairing affects the NXT Divas division, but one thing is for certain: It spells trouble for Charlotte and the NXT Women's Championship.

What else went down as the developmental brand hit the WWE Network airwaves?

Find out for yourself with this week's results, highlights, grades and analysis!

Tye Dillinger and Jason Jordan vs. The Ascension

1 of 5

The Ascension returned to NXT after a weeks-long hiatus and immediately picked up where they left off. Unfortunately for Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger, they happened to be the Superstars put in Viktor and Konnor's path.

Jordan and Dillinger experienced brief moments of success but otherwise found themselves completely overwhelmed by the power and fury of Konnor and Viktor.

Dillinger's night came to a sudden and painful end, courtesy of the Fall of Man.

After the match, Hideo Itami made his way to the ring and exchanged forearms and back elbows with The Ascension. Unfortunately for the international sensation, he found himself on the receiving end of a two-on-one beatdown.

Result

The Ascension defeated Tye Dillinger and Jason Jordan when Viktor pinned Dillinger.

Highlights and Quotes

"Now they are the hunters. The Ascension are very dangerous." -Jason Albert

"This Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger remind me of the clean-cut combo." -Alex Riley, putting the generic nature of the competitors as nicely as possible.

Grade

B

Analysis

The squash win over Dillinger and Jordan was nothing that fans of NXT had not seen before. Itami's attempt at avenging his mentor, Funaki, however, furthered the rivalry between he and the Ascension and proved, again, that the numbers game is just to much for the Japanese star.

At some point, he is going to have to recruit some help in his war with Konnor and Viktor or continue suffering beatdowns that threaten his well-being and his future with NXT.

It should be interesting to see whom Itami turns to for assistance. If you have read the recent spoilers, you already know the answer.

CJ Parker vs. Tyler Breeze

2 of 5

Originally intended to be Tyler Breeze vs. Mojo Rawley, CJ Parker stepped in for the injured Rawley and seized the opportunity to spread his word to the NXT Universe.

Parker took a page from Breeze's page, showing great aggression as he controlled the majority of the action. Breeze, however, withstood the offense of the eco-friendly Superstar and fought his way back into the match.

Rawley appeared midway through the bout, clutching his injured arm and staring intently at Breeze.

Breeze scored the Beauty Shot for the win.

Result

Tyler Breeze pinned CJ Parker.

Highlights and Quotes

"He's a guy who has an ax to grind with everyone." -CJ Parker

"It's hard to disagree with anything Tyler Breeze does." -Alex Riley

"In my opinion, Tyler Breeze deserves that No. 1 contender's spot next." -Jason Albert

Analysis

The entire segment was clunky and poorly conceived. First, you have two heels meeting in a match with no real reason or rhyme. Then, you have the awful Rawley lumbering to the ring, holding his shoulder and staring down Breeze but never doing anything, not to mention completely dropping the selling of the shoulder by the end of the ordeal.

It just did not work, nor will any sort of Breeze-Rawley feud without dropping the former back down to the midcard, a place he is far too good for.

Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy vs. The Vaudevillains

3 of 5

The Vaudevillains continued their road to the NXT Tag Team Championships and a match with Lucha Dragons by squaring off with Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy.

Blake and Murphy showed solid chemistry and even took control of the bout at one point, working over Simon Gotch, but English re-entered the bout, and the tide turned back in the favor of the prospective No. 1 contenders.

Blake made the hot tag, and the underdogs appeared to be gaining momentum, but Gotch and English caught him with an uppercut/neckbreaker combination for the victory.

Result

The Vaudevillains defeated Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake.

Highlights and Quotes

"The demeanor is just so different." -Jason Albert on the seemingly more focused and more dastardly approach of The Vaudevillains.

"That was manly!" -The NXT Universe

Grade

B

Analysis

The story of the match was the Vaudevillains' continued trek toward the NXT Tag Team Championships, but along the way, fans got to see consistent growth from Blake and Murphy, who have the potential to be a solid addition to the tag division as either babyfaces or heels. They worked hard Thursday night, and it showed.

Even if they never stood a chance of actually scoring an upset victory.

Bayley vs. Sasha Banks

4 of 5

Two women determined to earn a shot at Charlotte's NXT Women's Championship met inside the squared circle Thursday night for a huge Divas bout.

Sasha used her fierce, ferocious offense to wear down Bayley and prove her dominance throughout the majority of the contest. A harsh slap to the face elicited "oohs" from the commentary team as Banks continued to show personality in the contest.

Bayley fought back with a back elbow off the middle rope. Her comeback was cut short, however, thanks to the Backstabber and Bank Statement by Sasha for the submission victory.

After the match, Becky Lynch hit the ring to check on Bayley, then shocked the NXT Universe by turning on Bayley. The Irishwoman looked emotionless as she stood over the fallen Bayley, then made her way up the ramp with Banks.

Result

Sasha Banks defeated Bayley by submission.

Highlights and Quotes

"Is it BFFs the second season here?" -Banks

Analysis

The Becky Lynch heel turn was a game-changer for the NXT Divas division. For a few weeks, it has threatened to become somewhat stale in terms of matchups available, but suddenly, with a heel Lynch, those same matches fans have become accustomed to suddenly have a sense of freshness.

Expect to see Charlotte execute the babyface turn that has been teased since she defeated Natalya back at Takeover and embraced the third-generation Diva. Together, she and Bayley should form a formidable combination to combat Banks and Lynch, who will undoubtedly threaten Charlotte's status as champion.

NXT Championship Match: Adrian Neville vs. Titus O'Neil

5 of 5

NXT champion Adrian Neville faced his biggest test to date, at least from a size perspective, as he squared off with Titus O'Neil this week on the WWE Network!

Neville completely outclassed the challenger early, using speed to force O'Neil into an uncomfortable situation. The big Florida Gator slowed the momentum by using his power advantage to wear Neville down.

O'Neil trapped Neville in a bear hug, trying to seep the life from the champion's smaller frame. The Brit showed great resiliency, however, surviving O'Neil's brute strength and landing a series of kicks to stun his opponent.

A huge slap to the face and a double boot to the face knocked O'Neil out and allowed Neville to deliver the Red Arrow for the win.

Sami Zayn greeted Neville on the win at the top of the ramp and congratulated his friend/rival on his win. They exchanged a few verbal shots before Neville reminded everyone that Zayn can't win the big one.

Result

Adrian Neville pinned Titus O'Neil.

Highlights and Quotes

"He doesn't look uncomfortable to me at all." -Alex Riley on Titus O'Neil, who was wrestling his first singles championship match.

"That is something you cannot teach an NXT Superstar. Pure strength and power by Titus O'Neil." -Riley

"You might want to hold onto that because you won't have it for much longer." -Sami Zayn in reference to Neville and the NXT Championship.

Grade

B

Analysis

The match was a very competitive bout that saw Neville again prove to the NXT Universe that he can overcome any Superstar of any size, shape or style. His speed and pure athleticism was the perfect compliment to O'Neil's size and strength and the dynamic worked, even if it was a slower match than fans are used to.

The show-closing promo from Zayn reiterated his desire to challenge Neville for the title and furthered the story of the Canadian being unable to win the big one, something the NXT champion had no trouble pointing out in an attempt to play mind games with the man he once considered a close friend but now recognizes as a very real threat to his title.
